Read from a 16C55A using CCSLOAD? |

I have a legacy product and was trying to read the PIC16C55A with CCSLOAD, but when I select the part number from the device list, it will not appear in the Target Chip box (nor will any "C" type part, it seems). Is CCSLOAD not able to read these types or I am I doing something wrong?
Software: 5.085, Firmware: 3.61, Hardware: Rev 3 (PID 195) |

You might try PIC16F55 and see if it likes it ??
'C' would be quartz window version,so hope you had it covered ! |

Thank you for the reply.
I couldn't find a '16F55' in the CCSLOAD list. A '16F54' did, however, seem to work for a '16C54'. |

I believe the 16C55 used parallel programming instead of the serial programming so new serial only programmers will not work. |

I'm using ICD-U64. The 16C55 is in the CCSLOAD device list, but when selected, the device box remains blank. I'll look into MPLAB & the PICkit3, thank you. |

for sure it'll program with a PICSTART+, I have 2 'somewhere'.... course you'll need a PC with a 9 pin COMPORT.....
booted up the 'beast'..... MPLAB 7v51 and PICSTART+ LIKE the 16C55 ! |

Thank you! I'll look into those. I think I need to convince management to update this legacy product... |

Hay, if it ain't broke, no need to fix !!!
Seriously though, a 'daughter' PCB with say, hmm, a 16F84 might be an option ???
Odds are the new PIC and PCB will be cheaper than a 16C55 ! |

I remember there was an 'oddity' with some of those early chips. On
some programmers you had to disconnect the OSC2 pin in order to program.
Used to have to have a jumper and take it off when programming. |
